Meet AT&T Black Future Maker Journey Carter

Today we look at a new episode of ‘AT&T Dream in Black Presents Black Future Makers,’ a part of AT&T’s continued commitment to powering the possibilities for black entrepreneurs. In this episode, celebrity hosts Lori Harvey, who is the CEO of skincare brand SKN and Terrell Grice, a singer-songwriter and YouTube sensation, recognize an incredible young woman who is helping future generations feel comfortable in their skin.

Journey Carter, the owner of The Journey Collection, has been designing apparel and accessories since she was 12 years old. Her first creation was a hair accessory for young girls fighting cancer. When she was a sophomore in high school, Carter’s brand took a new direction. Having struggled with her own self-image, she wanted to build something that would help others love who they are — even if they feel different. She eventually started designing hoodies, t-shirts, hats, sweatpants and streetwear with a socially conscious theme. These would become part of her line of apparel called “Different.”

For much of Carter’s life, she’d been told that having dreams — especially as a Black woman — was to be unrealistic. However, Carter didn’t give in to that idea. She knew that if you dream it, you can achieve it, making her living proof of the Dream In Black mission and a perfect ambassador for this series. Today, the 18-year old proudly calls herself the youngest designer with a store in the famous Beverly Center of Los Angeles. She is currently balancing college life as a student at an HBCU in Texas and her life as an entrepreneur.

On behalf of AT&T Dream In Black, Lori Harvey and Terrell Grice presented Journey with a $10,000 check as well as a tech pack containing a laptop, a 5G-enabled device and website development funds to help further develop her business.
