Beyoncé has added another notch on her belt of accolades. At the 2023 Grammy Awards, she broke the record for most Grammy wins of all time for an individual artist with her win in the Best _______ category for
Prior to the live telecast, the Houston native already grabbed three awards – Best Song Written for Visual Media for “Be Alive,” Best Dance/Electronic Recording for “Break My Soul,” and Best Traditional R&B Performance for “Plastic Off the Sofa.” Before the ceremony began, the record for most Grammy wins was held by Georg Solti, who set this mark over 25 years ago when he earned the award for Best Opera Recording.

Beyoncé led this year’s nominations with nine, putting her in a tie for all-time Grammy nominations with her husband, Jay-Z at 88 each. Coming into Sunday’s awards, she had won 28 Grammys – tying Quincy Jones – already making her the most awarded female artist in the awards’ history. Outside of “Be Alive,” all of Beyoncé’s nominations this year except for stemmed from her hit album “Renaissance,” including nods for the single, “Break My Soul,” in the top three overall-genre categories; and R&B nominations for “Cuff It,” “Virgo’s Groove” and “Plastic Off the Sofa.”
Beyoncé’s first career win came in 2001, as a member of the R&B group Destiny’s Child for “Say My Name.” In the years since, she has been the recipient of awards in several genre categories, but has won just one major award, for Song of the Year in 2010.
