Episode 1 ‘Listen To Black Women’ Talks Holiday Etiquette and Gender Wars

Listen To Black Women is in the studio to discuss holiday etiquette and how the social media algorithm fuels the gender wars in Episode 1 of the series.

For this holiday episode, host Lore’l is joined by Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Elle Varner, media maven Melyssa Ford, and Listen To Black Men co-hosts Mouse Jones, Tyler Chronicles and Jeremie Rivers.

They discuss holiday etiquette with a question that may arise for new couples early in the relationship: How do you know when it’s okay to bring somebody home with you for the holidays?

Both women and men also had much to say about how social media can negatively influence relationships.

“I think the problem is, whenever we see headlines like ‘all men do’ or ‘all women are,’ it’s treating each group like they’re a monolith, and that is where we fail,” says Melyssa Ford. “We also fail when we use terms like ‘men versus women,’ because immediately that sets us up as opposing forces, and that we’re enemies. So that’s where progress dies.”

“It’s always been kind of a divide, and I think it’s been systematic,” says comedian, writer and actor Tyler Chronicles. “I think it’s part of that system that’s in our algorithm, that’s in the music, that’s in everything now.”
